Alexandra Bachzetsis was born of Greek-Swiss parents in Zürich in 1974. After studies at the Züricher Kunstgymnasium and the Dimitrischule in Verscio she moved to Belgium in 1997 to study at the Performance Education Program at the STUK arts center in Leuven. Before embarking on her own trajectory as a choreographer/performer, she participated in Sacha Waltz & Guests’ ‘Dialog 99’ (1999), Christine De Smed’s ‘9×9„’ (2000) and ‘Just an other Landscape for some Jukeboxmoney’ by Koen Augustijnen (2002). Since 2001 she concentrates on her own projects: Perfect (2001), Showing (2002), Karen Eliot (2003), Show Dance (2004), Murder Mysteries (2004), Gold (2004), Secret Instructions (2004), Handwerk (2005) Undressed (2005) and Musical (2006). Her main interests lie with issues concerning the representations of femininity and the mass-cultural infatuation with the female body on the one hand, and issues of a rather more ‘scientific’ (i.e. self-reflective) nature on the other, concerning the many methodologies of choreographing and performative behavior.

In june 2006 Alexandra Bachzetsis finished her Final Project at DasArts, the Advanced Research in Theatre and dance Studies centre in Amsterdam and in 2007 she is finished and presented two new creations, Mainstream, together with the Swiss artist Yan Duyvendak and Act, a collaboration with Tina Bleuler and Lies Vanborm.
